Zoie's U3 beim Kinderarzt

Gestern hatte Zoie ihr ersten Arzttermin. Um zu schauen wie die Maus waechst und sich entwickelt. Zu unserer Beruhigung ist alles prima! Der Arzt war ganz erstaunt, wie toll sie ihren Kopf schon halten kann. Er sagte Zoie kann ihren Kopf schon so lange wie ein 4 Monate altes Baby halten. Das hat uns riesig gefreut!
Waehrend der Arzt die anderen Reflexe kontrolliert hat, und er sie hoch in die Luft holte, hat sie mich ganz entsetzt angeschaut. Als wolle sie mir sagen "was macht der Onkel da eigentlich mit mir, davon wird mir ganz schwindelig" Sie liess aber alles brav ueber sich ergehen ohne zu schreien. Ausserdem hat es ja auch nicht wehgetan, nur das alles ein paar ungewoehnliche Griffe waren. Der Arzt kontrollierte ob sie "laufen" , "stehen" und "krabbeln" kann, und ob sie sich von der Seite auf den Ruecken rollen kann. Sie bestand die Pruefung mit einer glatten Eins.
Leider hat Zoie eine Allergie in ihrem Gesicht. Wir dachten es sei die typische Baby Akne, aber der Arzt sagte "Mami isst etwas, wogegen sie allergisch sei". So wie es aussieht ist das auch noch Schokolade, meine Lieblingsspeisse! Er meinte es koennte aber auch von Nuessen oder roten und gruenen Suedfruechten kommen, aber von diesen Sachen habe ich ausser Erdbeeren nichts gegessen, aber Schokolade jede Menge. Also, werde ich vorerst mal die lecker Schokolade weglassen, und auch meinen geliebten Nutella. Der Arzt sagte, die Roetungen in Zoie's Gesicht und Pickel muessten in 2-3 Tagen besser werden wenn ich das richtige Lebensmittel nicht mehr zu mir nehme. Damit die Haut nicht so trocken ist, riet er Muttermilch aufzutragen, diese fuer 15 Minuten einwirken lassen und anschliessend wieder abzuwaschen.

Wie auf dem Bild gut zu sehen ist. Zoie war den Rest des Tages total muede. Sie war total schlapp und wollte nur noch schmusen, essen und schlafen.



On Monday Zoie had her first Pediatrician appointment to make sure our sweetie is growing and in good health. So far the Dr. says everything is super! The Dr. was very impressed and said Zoie can hold her head up almost as long as a four month old as well as having great reflexes. The way the Dr. was holding her in the air would have made me (Marion) dizzy, but little Zoie was really brave and didn't cry once! She had to do a grip test, and roll reflex test and walking test and passed all with a big A .....we were so proud!

One thing that we were surprised by was; what we had thought to be a little baby acne, turned out to be allergies to something mommy has been eating......right now we think it may be chocolate, which means I'll have to give up the chocolate for a little bit to see if it clears up :o( not too happy about it, but will do it for little Zoie. Also, the Dr. said a little breast milk on Zoie's cheeks would help with the dryness and the itching so she doesn't scratch her face, with a little breast milk (left on for 15 minutes then washed off), some luck and mommy cutting out the bad foods from her diet Zoie's allergies should clear up in 3 to 4 days.

As you can see in the pic, Zoie is really tired after a hard day of tests and travel. The whole rest of the day she didn't want to do anything but eat, sleep and snuggle (she usually spends most of her time awake and looking around).

I don't know why she is so happy, I don't think it was anything I did....she probably just passed gas and is feeling really good about it....lol!

Although, Zoie laughs a lot, most of the time it's just random, not a whole lot that I do gets her to laugh while I'm doing it, but that doesn't stop her dad from acting like a complete goof-ball! Sometimes I think I enjoy it more than she does.... :o)

Posts in English and German!

I've have finally convinced my wife to start posting.... so you may see posts in German and English. For our German friends and family members that don't use English very much, you can now catch up with Zoie's progress. For those of you that can't read German, I'll add a quick translation at the end of the post (so don't forget to look for it at the end of the post). I won't translate it word for word but I will post the meaning.

Eventually, I hope that each post will have something from both of us, in our own languages, so that all our friends and family members, English and German speaking will be able to keep up and enjoy Zoie's Wonderful World!

Zoie's bunte Spielwiese!

Heute haben wir Zoie's bunte Spielwiese aufgebaut.
Sie ist wie ein grosses Puzzle zusammengesteckt und hat das komplette Alphabet. Noch kann sie mit den Buchstaben nichts anfangen, aber zum Liegen und Spielen ist sie trotzdem schoen.
Da die Maus nicht besonders viel vom Schlafen haelt, ausser natuerlich nachts, dachten wir, es ist eine schoene Idee Zoie nicht immer im Kinderwagen liegen zu haben, sondern auch so, das sie sich umschauen kann.
Nochmal zum Schlafen zurueck. Gestern haben wir online gelesen, Saeuglinge bis zu 4 Monaten sollen nach 2 Stunden Wachzeit wieder schlafen gehen. Zoie hat dazu aber ueberhaupt keine Zeit. Sie ist vorallem morgens nicht wieder so schnell muede. Meistens bleibt sie 3 bis 4 Stunden wach, eben bis zum naechsten Hunger. Sollten wir uns darueber Sorgen machen? Wir werden am Montag bei Zoie's U3 den Arzt mal fragen.
Ihr erster Arzttermin, sind gespannt wie sie das so finden wird.


Today we set up Zoie's new play area! It's a foam mat with the complete alphabet in very bright combination of colors (as you can see from the pics). Even though she can't read or play with the block yet, it's still a very nice setup for our daily "Tummy time" adventures.

Yesterday, we read that up to 4 months our little super star should be taking a nap after 2 hours of wake time. Right now she is staying awake for 3 or 4 hours at a time! She is sleeping that long at night, so I guess it all works out. Monday will will be taking Zoie to the Pediatrician for her initial checkup (since leaving the hospital 5 days after her birth). We are excited to find out if our little Zoie is in perfect health.....and we'll post her results Monday evening.

Passport pictures!

Yesterday was passport day! We turned in her passport and US citizenship paperwork. Even though she is an infant she is still required to have a passport while traveling abroad.

We were told 8 to 10 weeks......after that Zoie can travel the world!

After a quick visit to the changing room......Zoie is newly dressed and ready to go.

This outfit was much too big, just 2 weeks ago....it's amazing how fast she is growing and changing!

Colic baby?!

This morning, Zoie had her first colic-like attack, sometime around 04:30. She just started crying and wouldn't stop.....made us feel really bad, since she has never really cried in pain, only to let us know when she was hungry or when she wanted some attention.

We tried to make her feel better, but no matter what we did it, didn't seem to help. We felt so helpless! After changing her, trying to burp her, carrying her in a colic hold (with her belly down), Marion tried breast feeding her and she quieted down and gradually stopped crying.

The rest of the day she seemed her normal, quietly-curious and alert self.
